Ni’mat Kanaan Collection (1937-)
Ni'mat Asaad Kanaan (1937–) is a Lebanese consultant and social development expert with over four decades of public service. A graduate of Beirut College for Women (BA, 1958), and the American University of Beirut (MA in Educational Psychology and Sociology, 1964). She was the first woman to serve as Director General of the Ministry of Social Affairs (1993–2005). She shaped national welfare policies, drafted disability rights legislation, and advanced services for vulnerable populations. She also contributed to national committees on childhood, literacy, population, and aging. Her collection is relevant for documenting the development of social policy, women’s leadership in government, and initiatives supporting vulnerable communities in Lebanon.
