Anissa Rawda Najjar

Anissa Rawda (1913–2016) was a pioneering Lebanese activist, and advocate for rural development and women’s rights. Beginning her career in Iraq as a director of girl schools and went on to help establish and lead several women’s associations. She also represented Lebanon in international forums and conferences for many years, highlighting her lifelong commitment to the rights of women and children. Her collection is especially valuable for documenting the evolution of women’s activism, educational reform, and rural development initiatives in Lebanon and the broader Arab world throughout the twentieth century.
