Isa Iskandar al-Maʻluf Photo Collection, 1890s-1950s
Issa I. Ma'luf (1868–1956) was a Lebanese journalist, historian, and scholar whose family photograph collection offers a rich visual record of everyday life in Lebanon and the diaspora. Featuring images of women from early Lebanese and Brazilian studios, the collection documents relatives and social networks across Lebanon, Syria, and Brazil—capturing intimate family moments, weddings, and changing customs. Together, these scenes illuminate social ties, migration stories, and the blending of Levantine and diasporic identities across generations.
