Henrietta Butler Smith

Henrietta "Hetty" Butler Smith (1815–1893) was an American missionary and educator who supported Protestant missionary work in Beirut. This collection features her correspondence with her sons—artist Edward Robinson Smith and dictionary editor Benjamin Eli Smith. The letters offer insight into the daily life, travels, and experiences of American missionary families across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, serving as a valuable resource for understanding transatlantic missionary life, family networks, and cultural exchanges.
