Rose Ewald (1884–1960) was an American social activist and leader with Near East Relief, serving in Constantinople and Syria from 1922 and later directing Near East Industries in the United States until her retirement in 1952. Her photograph collection (1929–1931) documents sites across Lebanon including the American University of Beirut and various locations in Turkey, such as Robert College in Istanbul, as well as sites in Croatia. The collection provides valuable visual documentation of the region and highlights the role of American humanitarian and educational initiatives in the Near East.
