Women in Education
In the realm of education and scholarship, trailblazing Lebanese women such as Zahiya Kaddoura, the first female dean at the Lebanese University, and Jean-Marie Cook, long-time English Department chair at the American University of Beirut. At the same time, foreign educators like Mary Winifred Bushakra, Mary R. Robinson, and Henrietta Butler Smith brought international perspectives, guidance, and humanitarian expertise, helping to lay the foundations for women’s academic and social participation in Lebanon.
