Jean-Marie Cook

Jean-Marie Cook (1932–2024), former Chair of the English Department at the American University of Beirut, was a distinguished scholar and educator whose life was closely tied to AUB. Born in Boston, she earned degrees from Middlebury College, Radcliffe College, and Harvard University before joining AUB in 1963 with her husband, Daniel Cook. She remained in Beirut through times of conflict and continued contributing to the university after retiring in 1999. The collection is significant for documenting the academic, cultural, and institutional history of the American University of Beirut.
