A distinguished scholar, educator, literary critic, and AUB professor (1955-1995) of Palestinian-Lebanese origin, Muhammad Yusuf Najm (1863-2009) worked hard to promote the social and cultural significance of the novel, theater, and poetry for Arab societies. He is known for his numerous published works, primarily on Arabic theater and fiction. He has published 13 critical editions of classical Arabic works; studies on classical Arabic literature and theater; literary criticism; and translations of British literary criticism. The collection contains some correspondence with Arab authors and scholars, as well as manuscripts of early, unpublished Arabic and Egyptian plays.
محمد يوسف نجم (1863-2009)، عالم مرموق، ومربٍّ، وناقد أدبي، وأستاذ في الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت (1955-1995) من أصل فلسطيني-لبناني، بذل جهودًا كبيرة لتعزيز الأهمية الاجتماعية والثقافية للرواية والمسرح والشعر في المجتمعات العربية. يُعرف بأعماله العديدة المنشورة، خاصة في مجال المسرح والرواية العربية. نشر 13 طبعة نقدية للأعمال الكلاسيكية العربية، إلى جانب دراسات حول الأدب العربي الكلاسيكي والمسرح، والنقد الأدبي، وترجمات للنقد الأدبي البريطاني. تتضمن مجموعته بعض المراسلات مع مؤلفين وعلماء عرب، بالإضافة إلى عدد من مخطوطات المسرحيات العربية والمصرية المبكرة غير المنشورة.
