  • Locally remembered as “The Iron Dean,” Nickoley’ s firm yet fair presence shaped campus life. He patrolled Ras Beirut to remove liquor-selling businesses, checked bathrooms for smokers, and waited inside campus walls at night to catch students breaking curfew. His sudden appearances near popular spots like the Bekh‘azi sandwich shop would send students scattering.
  • From his office at the Main Gate, Dean Nickoley observed all comings and goings. Students knew that, just few dared to be late. If a student failed his courses, Nickoley would tell the parents, “It is better to give the money to the poor than to spend it on a lost cause.” His strict presence was so well known that students dinning in Faisal restaurant, facing Main Gate, would even toss cigarettes to avoid his gaze.
