First AUB alumni gathering in Mexico

As part of its global strategy to strengthen ties with alumni and the Lebanese diaspora, AUB's Director of Advancement in Latin America, Caroline Chalouhi Brennan, hosted an AUB Coffee Morning for AUB alumni in Mexico. The event took place on Saturday, March 8, at her home in Mexico City.

This was the first event of its kind for AUB in Latin America, and specifically in Mexico, which is home to a small group of alumni and friends (parents of current and former students, children of alumni.) For many attendees, it was the first opportunity to meet other AUB alumni, fostering new connections and expanding their professional networks. All were eager to contribute to AUB's alumni engagement efforts and expressed excitement about the prospect of more AUB events in Mexico in the future.

Among the distinguished guests were HE Lebanese Ambassador to Mexico Sami Nmeir (an AUB parent), former Lebanese Ambassador to Mexico Nouhad Mahmoud (also an AUB parent), and Nicolas David Barrett, a British gentleman born in Lebanon at AUH, as the AUB Medical Center was known at the time. His father, David Barrett, was an English language professor at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the 1950s. Ambassador Nmeir shared a heartfelt message, emphasizing the significance of AUB to Lebanon and the broader region.

Lebanon Meets Mexico: AUB Inspires the Next Generation of Lebanese-Mexican Youth

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Lebanese Club in Mexico City warmly welcomed the American University of Beirut (AUB) to a special evening dedicated to presenting AUB to Lebanese-Mexican youth while also celebrating Lebanese heritage, education, and opportunity. The event, organized in collaboration with the Lebanese-Mexican youth group Jomali, brought together nearly 60 young members of the community—most of them third-generation descendants of Lebanese immigrants to Mexico. Some had not heard of AUB while others shared that their grandparents would reminisce about AUB's beautiful campus.
