The Latin American Student Group was established at AUB in 1969 and remained active until 1973, becoming an important platform for cultural exchange and student engagement. Throughout its existence, the group organized a variety of social and cultural activities that reflected the vibrancy and diversity of Latin American traditions. Among the most notable events were the lively dance fiestas held in West Hall in 1969 and 1970. These gatherings not only showcased music, dance, and festive customs from across Latin America but also created a space where students and guests could celebrate cultural identity and community spirit. A highlight of the fiestas was the election of a “Miss Latin American Group,” a symbolic tradition that added excitement and recognition to the festivities. The events drew wide participation and were graced by distinguished guests, including H.E. Bernardo Reyes, the Ambassador of Mexico, whose presence highlighted the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Lebanon, the AUB community, and Latin America.
