A Library of World Folklore
Editors of this series made a serious effort to expose children to the richness and variety of human cultures: folk tales from distant communities and bygone times were systematically collected and presented in a congenial manner. Tales from Iraq, Sudan, and Morocco were transferred from their local dialects to a “regional fusha”, palatable to all Dar el-Fata’s readers. The collection also translated folk tales, fairy tales and fables from different languages and literary traditions. The tale featured above recounts how stories descended from the sky, in an apt analogy to highlight the enriching, uplifting and anchoring role that traditional folkloric stories have always played in all cultures.
