Theatre

Theatre was central to Baalbeck from its earliest years, beginning with the French theatre season that helped demonstrate the potential of the Temples as a performance space. Over the decades, international theatre groups like Théâtre National de Belgique and Comédie-Française shared the stage with Lebanese productions, making Baalbeck a place where different theatrical traditions encountered one another. The Festival's contribution to Lebanese theatre extended beyond the performances presented at Baalbeck. In 1966, it founded the School of Dramatic Theatre in Beirut, contributing to the development and training of a new generation of Lebanese theatre practitioners.
