Medical faculty and Imperial Commissioners at Commencement, 1912

Archives and Special Collections, Jafet Library, AUB

This exhibit explores the history and traditions of graduation ceremonies at the American University of Beirut from the late nineteenth century into the early twentieth century. Using photographs, programs, invitations, speeches, and archival records preserved in the University Archives, the exhibition traces the evolution of commencement rituals and highlights the experiences of early graduates, faculty, and university leaders. It sheds light on the growth of academic life at AUB, the emergence of new fields of study, and the diverse individuals who shaped the institution and its wider intellectual and cultural legacy in Lebanon and the region.
