The Trans-Arabian Pipeline Company (TAPLINE) archival collection (approximately 1.6 linear feet) includes correspondence, faxes and receipts, reports and miscellaneous primary source documents related to the functioning, history and administration of the TAPLINE Company. The collection also contains publications and press clippings related to the TAPLINE’s installations and operations; maps and plans for the Tank Farm Area, Sidon Terminal; company stickers; photographs of workers, tankers, landscape, oil pipelines, ships and the seashore. This collection presents a rare documentation of the TAPLINE which was established in 1945, and was a subsidiary of the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco). It is an important source for scholars interested in the socio-economic history of the region, in Arab-American relations, in the history of the Cold War and specifically in international geo-politics and the history of oil in the region. The collection was donated by the Makkinje family, in memory of Mr. Makkinje's pioneering work, and in support of research at AUB.
