Habib Hammam Collection (19th c. - 1960s)
The collection, which was donated to the AUB archives in January 2017, includes rare books and photographs. The books once belonging to the donor’s father, Dr. Nassib Hammam. Some have handwritten notes signed by prominent figures. The topics of the books vary and include history of the Middle East and the Arab world, medicine, poetry, social sciences and religion. The photograph collection consists of historical photographs of AUB students’ as well as documents and photographs of events by the AUB Alumni Association- North Lebanon Chapter- in the early 1960s.
Dr. Nassib Habib Hammam (1908 - ) was born in Shweir, Lebanon. In 1932, he received his Medical Degree. He practiced medicine as a private practitioner between June and November 1932, in his home village, after which he became a medical officer for the I.P.C. In 1942, he spent one year as an intern fellow at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Tripoli.
