The French were now in charge of Greater Syria: The visit of General Edmund Allenby to the College was detailed in “The SPC Torch Gazette", a student publication, Feb. 1, 1919: "Dec.13, 1918,

An outstanding reception was held in Assembly Hall in the presence of SPC President Howard Bliss and a large crowd of students and Faculty. In his address, President Bliss praised the British leader, then the latter commended the College, and attested to its great assistance to the people of the Near East [...]. Then Viscount Allenby gave a short encounter of the British campaign in the Near East."
