Employment Committee
"The College is deeply interested in the Red Cross work for the relief of the sufferers in Beirut and vicinity. In cooperation with the municipality, arrangements have been made to furnish work to those who are in need. Professor Reed has been made the Chairman of the Employment Committee. His Excellency the Governor General and his Honor the Mayor of Beirut have shown great interest in this phase of the work. The city has been divided into districts. Careful investigation has been made as to the worthiness of applicants, and every effort is being made to avoid overlapping."

"The rooms in the Annex, generally occupied by students, have been vacated in order to facilitate the relief work of the Beirut Red Cross Committee. Applicants for work report at these rooms and their cases are carefully investigated there and at their homes. Every Wednesday and Saturday a large number of men are seen in the buildings of the hospital clinics by Professor Reed and his associates. But it is not possible to grant continuous work to the applicants owing to the lack of funds. The work consists, for the most part, in cleaning the streets of the city. This is done under the direction of Mr. Elias Murr (SPC 1902), in cooperation with the city authorities."
